Subject: [ferrethealth] prolapsed rectum
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

In a four year old ferret, chances are pretty good there is a partial blockage causing the prolapse. Check the ferret's bedding for tiny little holes...you may have a bedding chewer.
You definitely need to take the ferret to the vet for a check up, probably a barium xray is in order. In the meantime, you can try plain white sugar to coax the tissue back in. You will have to hold your ferret with the sugar on his bum for at least a half hour....and don't let him lick it off. No, this is not a joke.
