Subject: [ferrethealth] Wrong CD vaccination
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
We had an "incident" today at the vets office, vaccination labels were mistakenly mixed up and one of our 6 year old ferrets received a K9 distemper/parvo combo vaccination. She was immediately treated with dex and benadryl and monitored for an hour without incident (other than being sleepy).
I checked the archives and see that the combo vaccine has been used in other countries without reported incident, which eases my mind somewhat. My question is, should this little one receive the proper Purevax vaccine next week? She is one of our shelter kids and this was to be her booster shot. She received her first Purevax shot four weeks ago, followed by a rabies shot two weeks ago (in which she had an anaphylactic reaction). She had not been vaccinated for at least 4 years prior to receiving this current series.
I would appreciate any thoughts/comments regarding giving another distemper shot.
Regards,
