As far as the fur regrowth goes there are several options.
1. The ferret may still be exposed to so much light that
the body is not regrowing the fur.
2. There may be tissue left that is diseased from the
removed adrenal, OR the hidden one may also be producing
too much of a hormonal load, or both. Right adrenals often
do not come out fully but are just debulked (the bulk removed
but not the total adrenal removed).
3. There may be an adrenal malignancy. If a carcinoma is
involved those usually can come out cleanly from an adrenal
location but certainly not always and our experience is that
with carcinoma it pays to pull both, though I don't know how
well that generalizes. Lymphoma is less likely to have a good
surgical response. There can also be some very rare adrenal
tumors or tumor types based in the adrenal such as teratoma
but some of those can behave differently from standard adrenal
tumors.
What did the histology results from the pathology lab that got
the biopsies say?
4. The follicles might not respond till after the next shed. That
simply does happen with some ferrets.
5. There may be follicular damage. This is more likely with a
malignancy rather than just hyperplasia, or with adrenal disease
that waited a long time before treatment.
Personally, I think I'd see about having a Lupron Depot, or a
melatonin implant or both for this ferret at this point and
discuss options with your vet.
