Subject: [ferrethealth] Proglycem Dosing question
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi. My ferret, Kyle is on pred - 5mg/ml and takes .15cc twice daily for insulinoma. His last sugar was 50. Initially, the vet told me, we will leave his pred dose as is - we couldn't go up on the pred bc if we did he would be "on a chemotherapy dose"(?). That's when I suggested Proglycem. I guess this vet's office may not use it that often, and I was dealing with one of the newer vets. She wasn't too sure about this suggestion, went off and consulted with (I'm assuming) the senior vet, and came out with a script for Proglycem. Ordered the 50mg/ml and told me to start him on .2cc twice daily and immediately decrease pred dose to .1 twice daily. I talked to a friend who has a ferret on Proglycem and she has me questioning the vet's recommendations. Does the proglycem dose sound too high? Should he maybe start with .1cc of Proglycem twice daily (He weighs 1.01kg) Should I be decreasing the pred more gradually??? I will call the vet on Monday to discuss further, but I'm
just wondering what others who have had experience think about this. Thanks!!!!
