Subject: [ferrethealth] Ferret with runny stools
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
We have=A0two=A04 year old ferret in what seems to be good health.=A0 The o=
nly problem is they are a little less active than what we would expect and =
they have=A0runny stools.=A0 The stools can be runny and green to normal.=
=A0 Sometime they can be seedy looking.=A0 they do play and get excited but=
not as often as they used to.=A0 If it wasn't for the stools we would thin=
k it was age.
=A0
We had them into the vet and one had all one type of bacteria in=A0his stoo=
l=A0which worried our vet, because when he sees it in cats there is a probl=
em, the other had a couple one of which was the same as the first.=A0 The o=
ne with the one kind of bacteria had two weeks of Clavamox and it seemed to=
improve some, but came back.=A0 Today he is finished another course of Cla=
vamox but his stools didn't improve.=A0 We took in a stool sample today but=
it didn't show any parasites or anything.=A0 We didn't have a cytology don=
e,...yet.
They don't appear to have any other disease process going on but all we've =
done so far is physical exams, temps, and stool samples.=A0 No lumps, tende=
rness, no temps other than normal temp)
=A0
Again if it wasn't for the stool sample I wouldn't worry.=A0 We have not ch=
anged anything in their lives=A0like detergents, water, food, treats which =
have been the same for over two years.=A0 I take that back we do rotate toy=
s every week or two.=A0 Their food consists of 50/50 mix of Zupream and She=
pherd and Greene.=A0 Treats include Bandits (Chicken, and Bacon), Totally F=
erret and 8 in one ultimate (We know these two are foods but we give them a=
s a treat). and N-bones (they usually don't eat the N-bones)
=A0
Does anyone have any ideas on what we could consider.=A0 I'm thinking of ta=
king him in and having a complete blood work up and x-rays, but I wanted to=
see if there was anything to watch for.
=A0
Thanks
=A0
Mike
