I think I know what your vet was referring to with the "chemo" dose of Pred=
... Although I'm not sure that there is a set min or max dosage amount for =
it, but I think basically what he means is that if your ferret is on Pred f=
or insulinoma, and then after that develops lymphoma or something, that the=
lymphoma will be considered chemo resistant because of him already being o=
n the Pred.=A0 The Pred interferes with the chemo drugs - this is according=
to my vet who is a top-notch vet very experienced in dealing w/ chemo drug=
s.=A0
Proglycem (diazoxide) is pretty expensive.=A0 There are some online compoun=
ding pharms that you can order from that may be cheaper than others.=A0 The=
y are in the files section of this group.=A0 The benefit to Proglycem inste=
ad of Pred is that Kyle wont get the side effects of the Pred (pred belly..=
etc).=A0
As you are now adding on the Proglycem (and also the fact that Kyle had a l=
ow BG reading), your vet is playing with the dosing amounts to try to figur=
e out the right dosages of both meds.=A0 If you dont feel comfortable reduc=
ing the Pred that quickly, talk to the vet about it, and they could recomme=
nd a different dosage.=A0 Same with the proglycem dosage, if you think its =
too high (but also remember that 50 was low on the Pred amount, so technica=
lly if you werent adding in the proglycem you would be raising the Pred), d=
ouble check with the vet.=A0 BUT you just want to monitor him very closely =
to be sure his glucose wont drop too low if you do change the dosages aroun=
d.=A0 I would definately double check all dosing amounts with your vet thou=
gh and go by what they recommend.=A0 I've dealt with insulinoma and pred an=
d proglycem a number of times now (unfortunately), and those dosages sound =
right to me.=A0

Hi.=A0 My ferret, Kyle is on pred - 5mg/ml and takes .15cc twice daily for =

.=A0 I guess this vet's office may not use it that often, and I was dealing=

went off and consulted with (I'm assuming) the senior vet, and came out wit=

I talked to a friend who has a ferret on Proglycem and she has me question=

hould he maybe start with .1cc of Proglycem twice daily (He weighs 1.01kg) =
Should I be decreasing the pred more gradually???=A0 I will call the vet on
Monday to discuss further, but I'm just wondering what others who have had=
experience think about this.=A0 Thanks!!!!
