Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Re Lighting in the ferret room
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Amber light bulbs are amber colored ones, kind of a
golden color between orange and yellow.

Many stores carry them now and there are special places
like a university business (or originally a university
internet business): LowBlueLights.

I think that the study which wound up most shocking people
was a huge human one done comparing day shift and
night shift nurses, but there have been many more on
many species, including ferrets, of course. Having enough
natural melatonin production simply does consistently in
studies help reduce tumor rates, reduce malignancy rates,
and help maintain good health in a number of other ways.

The wavelength that most interferes with the body's own
melatonin production is blue. Green is second worst and
I don't know if people have noticed but as more and more
research is released about this more places seem to be
slowly switching to amber lighting for equipment lights.
Given how many people and animals sleep in rooms with
such lights that is a very good thing health-wise.

Sorry about not feeling well enough to reply yesterday; I
won't be on much today and the other moderators are
kindly doing my share of the work. Our building is having
the control box for cable and internet access replaced
(hopefully today) due to it limping along recently, and yesterday
I just had a large number of teeth capped due to breakage
so am still a bit exhausted from that. (No accident, just
mesial drift but the exposed dentin finally got too thin
for comfort.)

Thank you, Patty, Pam, Troy Lynn, Bruce and Julie!
