Though occasionally I suspect they are looking for the salt in your perspiration or the oils from your skin, I mostly think it is a sign of affection. All of my ferrets have groomed each other that way and "groomed" me that way too, to various degrees. If it's really excessive maybe it could be a sign of something, but in my experience it's just giving you love.

Fair warning though, some of my ferrets get bored with giving me love after a while and switch to a playful nip. I usually head them off by picking them up and subjecting them to some cuddle time before they get a chance. I've only had a few ferrets that liked to do this, but those that did were notorious for it.
