Subject: [ferrethealth] Adrenal Disease Treatment Question
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello, I am seeking permission to cross-post because I asked the same question in Ferret Talk 2.

I have an adrenal treatment question that has probably already been covered in previous posts and the archives.

I am unfortunately out of town and do not have much time to use the internet. I am visiting my mother - she has brain cancer (Primary CNS Lymphoma) and has been through 3 chemo cycles. Due to catching PCP Pneumonia she has been hospitalized for 11 days and on a ventilator for 9 of those days.

Please forgive me for not being able to do the proper research.

My boyfriend and I have 5 ferrets. Isis has already had adrenal surgery and had one of her adrenal glands removed. Shiitake looks to me like he is adrenal - but I don't want to pay a bunch of money on tests to prove that my instincts are right.

Right now both Isis and Shiitake are getting melatonin daily (from my boyfriend). The vet told him what dose is ok to use.

Can giving melatonin to a healthy ferret cause any complications?

Can giving Lupron to a healthy ferret cause any complications?

I have mixed feelings about deslorelin. Because I have heard mixed reports. Some swear by it. Some say it just plain doesn't work. Some say the side effects are not worth the implant. The problem is that I do not have enough knowledge or education to be able to decide on how to proceed.

Does anyone know of any studies done on deslorelin?

Does anyone have personal experience with deslorelin?

If my post is not acceptable to be put up on the board please let me know. I am just trying to find the best course of action for our babies.

Thanks,
Jules
