Subject: [ferrethealth] Skin bumps and itchy
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi,
I just rescued a ferret last night from a family who no longer wanted him. He is a 13 month old Sable altered male. He is very skinny.

They gave him a bath just before they dropped him off and I'm not sure if they didn't rinse him well or if he has a skin condition. His head and neck is covered with thick raised bumps, his coat is dry and not soft. Lastly, he's very inactive and when he is up he's itching like crazy. They had been putting a drop of advantage on him but I am anti poisons so I put some DE in his little sleeping house and checked him over for fleas but didn't see any to comb out. He had been eatting marshalls but I began the switch to wellness Core this am with plans of getting him switched onto whole prey raw ASAP.
Can ferrets get Fish body oil?? Should I give him a bath with a anti itch medicated shampoo for kitens and rinse him really well??
Also, any tips for getting him to warm up to me and play? All he does is sleep then make one pass around my room then goes back in his cage and goes back under his blanket and falls asleep. He's eating, drinking and eliminating fine (albeit not in his litter pan, he was paper trained so he's going just in front of the pan where I put some paper down and I plan to put less and less paper out till he just using the pan).

Thanks for your time and please let me know what I can do to help his bumpy skin and itchiness!!
Thanks
Jill and Calvin
