Preventing anxious moms from doing this is difficult, so the only real preventive is to reduce the stress on the moms. But - our jill who did this to her kit this year didn't seem stressed at all, just unsure of what she was doing. It was her first litter, and she really didn't have a clue. She settled in with them and was an excellent mother overall.
