Subject: [ferrethealth] sub-clinical lymphoma?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I need some advice on how to proceed...
My 6 year old male ferret Liam went in to have his left adrenal gland removed this morning and while in surgery they discovered a mass on his GI tract. They used a needle to test some cells and it came back as Lymphoma so they closed him up and decided not to remove the mass while they were in surgery. I am going to pick him up tomorrow and they want to discuss further treatment leaning towards chemo. I am a little confused by all the literature I have been reading through. He is sub-clinical - as in not showing any signs of the disease at all, no loose stools, no weight loss, no lumps, no lethargy...etc. SO how should we proceed? Is chemo really a good option if he is not showing any clinical signs? Should he be left alone until he appears ill? what would be the prognosis in a ferret that otherwise seems perfectly healthy? I am soooo confused by the literature out there that is aimed at clinically ill ferrets. Any advice would be wonderful and much appreciated.
Eileen
