Subject: Re: [ferrethealth] New to group: sick kit, Qs on being very vocal
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I am not anywhere near an expert.=C2=A0 I have never heard of this kind of =
behavior (that doesn't mean it doesn't happen).=C2=A0
=C2=A0
I would suggest finding a ferret knowledgeable vet and let him/her have a l=
ook.=C2=A0 There are some ferrets who really want to be held and cuddled by=
people but I haven't heard of one who cried when not being held.
=C2=A0
Do love on him and comfort him as much as you can.=C2=A0 Depending upon the=
response you get from this group you may want to have a ferret knowledgeab=
le vet take a look at you fuzzy just incase there is something wrong and yo=
ur fuzzy is trying to tell you there is something wrong.
=C2=A0
I thank God that you did arrive at the pet store to save this little one.=
=C2=A0 What is wrong with buying a sick ferret???=C2=A0 They need love and =
a home too.=C2=A0 Some people on this group are really against buying from =
pet stores but those little fuzzies can't help where they are and they do n=
eed and deserve love and a home.=C2=A0 Well done taking in this fuzzy.
=C2=A0
I have one ferret who will come and lay down near me (sometime not but well=
within sight) so I can pet his head, neck, and back.=C2=A0 He doesn't want=
me to hold him when I do this (one in a while but not often).=C2=A0 He jus=
t wants to be near me.=C2=A0 This behavior has taken shape over the three y=
ears we had him, he wasn't like this when we first got him.
=C2=A0
Good luck with your ferret, he sounds like a treasure.=C2=A0 I hope everyth=
ing is okay with him and that there are no problems.=C2=A0 Sorry if I keep =
leaning on the side of the possibility of a problem but I'm currently worki=
ng with a very ill ferret so I dwell on illness more than normal.
=C2=A0
Take Care

[I think what was encountered was that some people
were against buying a kit WITH THESE SPECIFIC SYMPTOMS
as was the treating vet, and there is an excellent reason:
early canine distemper can look like this and if an animal
with canine distemper is taken home that can put other
animals at risk.

There can be many reasons why a kit will cry: problems
with dental eruption, illness, injury, past abuse, and deafness
are among them. Some just differ in personality. We had
a male maybe 25 years ago who was like that for a short
while as a kit. He worked out fine, and was always a very
cuddly individual.
