Three main culprits in a case like this are. DIMS, Juvinile Lymphoma or FIV (new to the ferret world).

[What ferrets get is not FIV itself; it is a mutation
of ECE, one which behaves like FIV, so is "FIV-like"
rather than FIV. There has been yet another
genetic study recently released on that disease
looking at another part of the genome with the
same results as earlier: an ECE mutation that
behaves like FIV does. Since both are coronaviruses
it isn't really a surprise that a mutation of one
could behave like the other. The technical term
often being used for it by researchers currently is
"Systemic ECE".
