Typically unless you also see a discharge, it's not due to infection. Incomplete spay is unlikely (problems would have shown up sooner as in the fall).
Yes ferrets can get adrenal at a young age. I had a whole male fixed at 6 monthes that was adrenal by 1 year. It happens. And yes, fixed ferrets still get hormonal, that's been proven. But likely adrenal is the culprit IMHO.
