Subject: [ferrethealth] very sick ferret for 11 days: peritonitis and pancreatitis
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi,

My 6 months old ferret, Tina, has been very sick in the past 11 days. She is extremely lethargic (now she barely moves anymore), she has lost a lot of weight, she has soar throat, high fever, running nose and eyes. I made blood tests and all came back normal, except the level of hematocrits, which came back a little lower than normal.
Last Friday, the vet made an exploratory surgery (because there was a lot of gas showing up on the x-ray) and he discovered that her intestines were fine, but she showed signs of infection and he diagnosed her with peritonitis and pancreatitis. We are still waiting for the biopsy and stool tests result.
She has been under treatment with antibiotics and fluids, but she shows no signs of getting better.
I dont know if this might be important, but a day before she got ill, I had a visit from a friend. Tina chewed his leather shoes and the friend used antiperspirant. Could it be relevant?

thank you very much for your help,

Roxana

[Do you mean that the friend uses a food medication
and Tina was chewing and licking in the shoes? If so,
find out WHAT foot medication and if there are listed
ingredients also find out those.

Then ask at Animal Poison Control Center:
