When you got him did you continue to feed him the same food he was eating at his old home? Ferrets don't switch foods easily and even though they may eat a piece now and again of the new food, it will not be enough to sustain them. If you didn't continue to feed him his old food, at this point he may not eat it readily but it would be worth a try. With his low weight and fragile condition, it sounds like a baby food recipe might be helpful. One very easy recipe I use is 1 jar turkey and gravy baby food (small jars), baby food jar of water, ferretone, ferretvite, and 1/4 jar of heavy whipping cream. Carnivore care can be added if you like. Put it all in the blender and blend till smooth. Warm a serving amount in the microwave a few seconds, stir with your finger to make sure it isn't too hot, then finger or spoon feed. For ferrets that haven't had heavy whipping cream before I'd recommend starting with half that amount. You can find tips on how to feed sick and old fer
rets on a link on my website at www.ferretfamilyservices.org, scroll down and the link will be on the right side.
As for the salivating that could be a symptom of low blood sugar.
Sounds like he needs a trip to the vet for a check up and a glucose check and started on a liquified baby food recipe.
healing hugs. tle
