Subject: [ferrethealth] Insulin level=20

If I recall correctly all insulinomas are neoplasms or carcinomas of the is=
let cells of the pancreas- and those cells produce too much insulin- they a=
re not likely to be invasive like some carcinomas but the actual overproduc=
tion of insulin itself causes the low blood sugar and this is the problem.=
=C2=A0It can be in a few cells, not all the cells may be=C2=A0producing ins=
ulin even when affected,=C2=A0or can be in a few cells now.=C2=A0 However, =
later on it likely will involve more and more cell.=C2=A0 =C2=A0Getting the=
low blood sugar to stabilize and suppress these cells is sometimes a probl=
em, and in some ferrets not so hard to do until later on in the disease.=C2=
=A0=C2=A0

options are from dietary changes, to medications, to surgery to a combinati=
on of all.=C2=A0 =C2=A0

In short, the insulin level is not indicative of whether this is a cancer t=
hat will spread or one that is just in the local area, but just the diagnos=
is of insulinoma where there is in your ferrets case a very high level, whi=
ch can mean more cells are affected or just that those affected by the insl=
uinoma are very active.=C2=A0

the treatment options and medication/surgery options are the same.

Would an insulin level of 2,755 be indicative of a carcinoma on the pancrea=
s, or might it just be a result of 'normal' insulinoma? =C2=A0Blood Glucose=
level at the time, after a 3 hour fast, was 63.
