To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Thank you so much Tressie. You have in fact cleared up much of my confusion!

I have just given her Carafate and will wait 35 minutes before I feed her. When I am done with her feeding (usually takes 10 minutes) should I then immediatly give her the antibiotics?

The problem I have found is that she is less apt to willingly take them after she has eaten a full meal. Could I give them half way through the feeding or would that be counterproductive?

Is the .6 ml of Carafate the standared dosage? Now I am questioning my vets treatment!

She is not vomiting. Initially she was only periodically grinding her teeth which progressed and then black tarry stools, went off food & water. My fault for not treating it right away. =( She is eating now and getting sub-q fluids, stools are brown, grinding has lessoned and she is active.

On another note. We did do CBC & x-rays to rule blockage and anything else out. Other than a slightly enlarged heart everything came back normal. Culprit most likely being stress related & from food change since she just came home with me in January from the cat & dog shelter I volunteer at.

Thanks again for everyones help!
