Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Deslorelin side effects
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

G'day,

Probably none. I've been following this topic for some time. Our 5 months old female (ferret) received the implant (Suprelorin 12) two weeks ago instead of being surgically neutered. Some vets who are on the cautious side recommend surgical neutering PLUS implant at the same time, especially for females. From what I have learnt over the years, and I'm rather neurotic when it comes to hyperadrenocorticism having lost two ferret to the condition, I would have any of my neutered ferrets, boys or girls, receive Suprelorin 12 whether or not the show any signs of adrenal disease. Suprelorin 12 is effective for approximately 4 years. A surgically neutered ferret would only need one implant in its lifetime.

Regards,
Christina
