Having had an insulin dependent ferret for almost 1 1/2 years I would advise insulin as needed until the pancreas begins functioning again. Any time spent over the renal threshold will cause damage to organs and slow down the time the pancreas takes to function again.
Of course he will need frequent monitoring to make sure you know when the pancreas begins working so you dont end up with a hypo situation on your hands.
I wish him the very best, please follow up and let us know how he is doing, this will be great information for any others who find themselves in this situation.
