Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: dosage of lupron depot
The answer I was given by two separate exotics vets was that its much easier to medically manage a ferret on the monthly depot.
That is doses can be adjusted as needed along the way.
That was certainly the case with my Cannoli, who was 2 at the time and was having to get the monthly Lupron Depot every 10-14 days adjusting doses, until he had adrenal surgery, because it didn't remain in his system very long. He was very difficult to manage medically.
He had the right adrenal removed, left looked fine and was left in place, a year later he was showing clinical symptoms again and was given the Deslorelin implant. I will not be taking him into surgery again. The Deslorelin is working fine.
