Mary,

They aren't really health issues, but I have noticed that my silvers, and others I have encountered in pet stores and such, have strangley short tails and tend to be more vocal than other ferrets. Thats why I am particularly fond of them. Most of my ferrets have been rescues for health issues so its hard for me judge that against others since all mine have been an little "special".

Laura

[In multiple species shortened tails and no tails
are associated with an increased rate of
spina bifida, and species lacking tails with
higher rates than those who have tails.

Extreme vocalization is more common in deaf
ferrets than in hearing ferrets, and deafness, or
partial deafness more often encountered in
ferrets who have neural crest variations.

So, what you are seeing can be related to health
problems.
