To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
FERT the Ferret Education and Research Trust have advised all RSPCA centres to vaccinate ferrets and some other rescue organisations are doing the same.
There is no licensed vaccine for CD in the UK which is one reason many ferrets are not vaccinated. But the dog vaccines, such as novibac, have been widely used and there are not many reported problems. A lot of vets in the UK are reluctant to vaccinate ferrets because of the lack of license, and there is disagreement about whether to use a whole or half vial, apparently there is some yet unpublished research suggesting a whole vial is ideal but some ferret specialists still use half a vial.
My own 9 ferrets are booked in next week which should ensure they are covered before we start the PR and show season.
