Subject: [ferrethealth] Rufus and insulinoma
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi Maureen,
No, I would not recommend using Depo Provera
to treat his insulinoma; however, the Depo Medrol
could help because it is a long acting pred.
If your liquid pred is really only 5 mg/5 mls
(and not 5 mg/1 ml) then it is time to increase the
amount of liquid you are giving. Because he is having
seizures, I would increase the dose to 1 mg (ie 1 ml) 3 times
a day. Once the seizures are under control and his glucose
level improves, then you can usually decrease the dose
to 1 mg just 2 times a day. Then you can adjust the pred amount
based on his glucose level.
I would also use baby food (stage 1 or 2 meat only, ie. chicken
or turkey) or Hill's a/d to feed him 4+ times a day to help stabilize
his glucose levels.
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
