I heard off-list from Dr. Bruce Williams,
who joins the other ferret experts vets
here who have said that killing off the
beta cells is not an option. He's seen
it done for research purposes once or
twice and learned about it. It was
always fatal for the ferrets and a rough
way to go.

Your vet sounds interested in learning
so the vet replies and the ferret veterinary
text book information should prove useful.
You and your vet must be greatly relieved
to learn that ferrets can typically deal with
the levels of Prednisolone (or Prednisolone
and diazoxide) needed by your ferret, and
that there could well be room for further
increases. The feeding tips and the
medication timing tips will also be huge
helps.
