Subject: [ferrethealth] foster again - hand feeding volume intake for a non-eating ferret?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Foster (on carafate, pepcid, amoxi all at appropriate times with regard to food and vet directions) is still not eating on his own. I am hand feeding him - with a syringe- and drop by drop carefully and slowly. He's getting five- to six feedings a day and I manage to get 10-12 mls of chicken"soup" into him - sometimes on the low side, sometimes 12. I looked in the archives about amounts needed for a ferret (Foster is down to 1.7 pounds- normal low is 2.0 pounds). I found an old post YG 8498 which had
"Magellan lived on 30-50 cc's 3-4 times daily for 2.5 years".

I assume that this was just an animal that did not want to eat dry food but had a good appetite. And maybe was a bigger/heavier ferret?
