One thing to look for is unexplained, continued weight loss. We saw
this with Pertwee but no other symptoms.
At the time there were no test or pancreatitis in ferrets (not sure if
that's still true) but our vet thought that was one of the more likely
causes in a ferret that otherwise seemed to be healthy. Pertwee loved
Bob Church's Chicken Gravy and our vet at the time had us add
Viokase-V (pancreatic enzyme) to the gravy. Pertwee started steadily
gaining weight again so we know that it was pancreatitis.
I realize that this isn't all that helpful but at least you have on
symptom listed.
