It does sound like megaesophagus.

If your vet does the barium swallow Dr. Warren recommends it will at least confirm whether megaesophagus is what you are dealing with.

Unfortunately, if that is what it is, it's a horrible condition and the little one I was caring for had to be euthanized when the condition progressively worsened. We did a lot of what you have already done and finally did the barium swallow, which confirmed our worst suspicions.
