I concur with comments on the prednisone/prednisolone doses. My vet has raised the pred dose to control the disease even a little higher than the 2mg/Kg (my thought is that with an aging sick ferret what do you have to lose?).
I've had 3 ferrets recently with insulinoma - either at an age where surgery was not feasible, or with other health conditions - that have ended up for a year at 2.5 mg/Kg (and a little higher) twice daily. The two females weighing 1.8, 1.9 pounds were getting half a 5mg tab daily for over a year. This was their max dose - they had been on lower doses - probably starting at 0.5mg/Kg, gradually raised, before I took them in at 7 yrs old. The male (2Kg) was getting 2.5 mls of 1mg/ml of prednisolone.
They all died of other illnesses (heart, lymphoma)but the pred bought them several years of good life. My vet has treated a lot of ferrets, and she she's pretty cautious in general - so I trust her judgment.
