To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Rufus' prednisolone is 5mg/5ml. I increased his dose last night to 0.225 ml (giving it 2x/day) because he was drooling & a little unsteady. He's doing better this morning. He weighs 2.3 lbs according to vet visit last week. I have no way to check his glucose level at home. He has also been eating a little more often, so I think I'm on the right track finally.
Thanks,
Maureen

[That is still an extremely low dose at that concentration.

His blood glucose needs to be run and the dose
taken up to a point where his blood glucose is over 70.

The vet can pull blood and test it. If your vet can't then
it is time for the vet to learn from a ferret vet in your
area or use that vet at least for the needed testing and
consultations. These will help on that score. There is no
reason why you can't use two vets AS LONG AS THE VETS
KNOW THIS IS HAPPENING AND SHARE THE MEDICAL FILES.

Share the resources with your vets:
the vet text info, the replies you got, the moderators' notes,
the FHL Archives, thelists of vets who might be helpful
(though the lists are not judged so some will be better
than others and there were such offers in the replies you
got from ferret expert vets, too) such as

and

Most vets did not study ferrets in vet school and do not
have any or many ferret vet texts. Heck, I am not a vet
but have more of them at home than most vets do. So,
you can't expect a non-ferret-vet to know what a ferret
vet knows, but if your vet wants to learn those replies and
other resources WILL facilitate doing so.

For at home testing, or even for your vet in-house, the
AlphaTrak on setting 7 is the way to measure accurately
with minute amounts.
