This will likely get me thrown off the list, but here is a simple deaf
ferret test:

[You can do things that are less likely to also blow or
cause vibrations like trying bells, squeak toys (most of
which ferrets should never have without constant
supervision due to GI blockage risks) pans to bang,
etc. Some can hear low tones but not high tones and
others can hear high tones but not low ones, while
yet others are completely deaf.

(Yet others like noises.)

BTW, be careful with appliances around ferrets to
avoid injury.
