I get Prevention magazine. An article recommended applying olive oil directly to inflamed, dried, irritated skin. I thought this is an excellent idea for ferrets with skin conditions - it will ease their discomfort and it won't harm them if they lick it. Debbie

[Yes, olive oil is a very old moisturizer.
The Ancient Romans applied it after a
bath and then removed the excess by
scraping the skin with a small, smooth
piece of wood, metal, or stone.

We've personally found it useful for
ferrets whose skin has become dry
for medical reasons, but we towel
off excess, and that is especially
important if the ferret will climb onto
upholstery or teak, or if the ferret
has birdseed stools since those indicate
difficulty digesting fats/oils.
