Subject: [ferrethealth] Back into ferrets after a year

About a year ago I lost my Jack. It was a combo of things. He had insulinoma AND Adrenal then we had a power outtage during a rash of very hot days and no matter what we did we could not keep him cool enough. We were new to the area and knew no one with a generator that could help. He passed in my arms giving me kisses. I comphort myself that he knew he was loved.

I have finally felt the pull to have ferrets again so I advertised. I got only one response but one was enough. A family has to find a home for a pair of almost 4 year old ferrets they have had since they were 5 weeks old. I feel bad they must give up their pets, but so happy they chose us to love them. There is a male and a female, believed to be litter mates. Both altered but needing their shots. I do not think Rabies is required on ferrets here, it wasn't when I had my Jack. So I will get them their distemper shots and do a fecal.

I felt so bad after losing Jack I stopped reading about ferrets and put them out of mind and out of heart. So I look forward to jump starting my memory and relearning the best way to care for my new friends.
