Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: URGENT: Extreme pain after 5 days post-op
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

She is back in the hospital. I am at a complete loss at this point. After such progress, eating and drinking, active and alert she went right back to where we started.

The notable change in the past 24 hours are-

a) yesterday taking her off Metoclopramide, Famotidine, Valium (Why on earth he used it anyway is beyond me)Today she was on Tramadol, Amoxi and Carafate and in pain, nauseous, with no appetite.

b) going from injections to oral at home.

Can anyone tell me if going off the Metoclopramide would cause such drastic change in 24 hours?

After brainstorming I thought of a possible cause of the decline. Seeing that I am not a qualified to make this presumption I would really like someone experienced to tell me if this is a likely scenario/possibility.

Last night she did great when she came home. Later in the evening began gagging and hacking and vomited white foamy liquid. (this was 2 hours after giving Tramadol) She pooped twice in the following 10 hours and both were scant piles of green goo. She has never, ever had an abnormal bowel movement, the previous day they were formed and normal.

--- So my question is, where Metoclopramide was being used to increase her stomach motility is it possible that when it did begin to work that it finally loosened up the suspected hairball and pushed it in the intestine creating a blockage?

I realize I am "shooting in the dark" here but I am getting pretty desperate knowing euthanizing her is lurking.

Thanks again everyone.

[Quick question though this is UNlikely:
Was she home before and if so if there
any chance that there may have been a
toxin exposure each time?
Only asking to try to not miss anything
that might be able to be tackled.

White and foamy is more consistent
usually with reflux than vomit though
her stomach may have been empty.

She really might need to motility drug
longer term than it has been given.
