Subject: RE: [ferrethealth] How to mix a/d
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

I mix a teaspoon of plain canned pumpkin in a can of AD and then add a
little warm water - just enough to make it a soft pudding consistency. Some
of my ferrets will eat it just like that; others I warm it slightly in the
microwave (with mine microwave 8 seconds works) and stir it again before
giving it to them. I have had one that just doesn't like it no matter what,
but most that won't take it by sitting it in front of them like it after a
few days of using my finger or a syringe. My vet just thins the straight AD
with a little water and warms it slightly.

[Per standing Vets' Requests whenever giving
food by syringe is mentioned so that any
FHL members can learn this caution:
Syringe feeding needs to be taught hands-on
by the treating vet or one of the vet's techs.
This is because it is too easy to cause
aspiration pneumonia in a ferret with syringe
feeding.
