Subject: [ferrethealth] Sprout (a/d) update

For the a/d I spooned=A0everything out of the can and put it in a container=
to store in the refrigerator.=A0 I took about 15 mls of the a/d and added =
about 20-25 mls of water and warmed in the microwave.=A0 I stirred it with =
a spoon and ended up with a whole lot of tiny pieces of a/d in the water.=
=A0 He did eat about 10 - 12 mls of this a/d and then wanted to back out of=
my arm or climb up to my shoulder.=A0 I brought him back to the a/d severa=
l times and decided that if I pushed too hard it could cause him to not wan=
t to eat at all.=A0 I then mixed 15 - 20 mls of pureed chicken with water a=
nd warmed in the microwave.=A0 He ate about 10 - 12 mls of this and then wa=
sn't interested any more.=A0 One point here is he has been getting the chic=
ken for over a month now so I know he eats it.
=A0
We took him into the vet who found he has a mass in his abdomen which is ve=
ry painful for him.=A0 He found it by palpation and by ultrasound and wants=
us to bring him back Monday or Tuesday to do a needle biopsy, because he w=
as very swamped on Saturday.=A0
=A0
I was able to get him to eat beachnut chicken and turkey baby food over the=
remainder of the weekend.=A0 I fed him=A01/2=A0jar 4 times a day.=A0 Today=
he looks a lot better and was trotting around after I gave him meds and ch=
icken baby food this morning.=A0 He even climbed to the top of a piece of f=
erret furniture about 3 feet high.=A0 He looks like he feels better too.=A0=
I'm thinking of putting off the vet until Thursday or later to give us a c=
hance to get more weight on him.=A0 I also don't like the idea of putting h=
im under anesthesia to do a needle biopsy.
=A0
I will keep him on the baby food until I get a couple ounces on him then I =
will see about getting back to the pureed chicken and then try a/d again bu=
t mixing it as some have described.
=A0
I will keep everyone updated on his progress.=A0 Our vet told us that recov=
ering from ECE can take 3 - 6 months or more.

[Forget the spoon for stirring a/d and use one or two forks instead.
The biopsy may give enough info to allow the vets to make
treatment choices. There may be a med which may slow
the problem.
