They came from rather bad background from the little I got off the former owners.

They came with rechid food by HARTZ. I immediately got the best cat food I could find as all ferret kibble near me was as bad or WORSE than what they came with. I just got the Drs Foster and Smith food today. Still not as good as I would like but much better, no corn!

I was contemplating a more natural approach to feeding and was wondering if anyone has any resources to help me decide. As I have snakes as well as these two (kept sepereate with hand sanitizer in each room well out of reach of the animals and small children), we have access to frozen mice and can easily get rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, day old chicks, and quail. I feed my indoor only cat a semi-raw diet and am transitioning to full raw. Would like to know if and how it could be done for ferrets?

Also, what can one do to help build muscles that have not really been used without too much strain? These two were locked in their cage as far as I can tell for 2 years. They are getting 2-3.5 hours out of cage right now with much wobbling, falling over and resting. Although the girl, Dianne, did the war dance at my indoor only cat, Prince. I think she was inviting him to play, because they did!

I just made up a batch of duk soup and put it up in the freezer. I do not know if they have ever had it before. Should it be for emergencies only or can I feed it as part of their regimen? If I should include it in their feeding schedule, how often should I offer it?

Saddly they have not had shots for 2 years. Advice on what to do when I get them would be great. While the vet we have lined up is touted as the best in the area, I am not familiar with him with Ferrets. Thus I do not know for sure he knows the best way to do shots with them. Info I can share if needed would be great.

Thank you for any and all advice to help these two.

Katherine with Jack and Dianne

PS: there is no hair loss so adrenal is not suspected at all at this time. Also stools are reasonably normal considering the change in home and a cleaner than before cage.
