Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: tail hair a bit too thin
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

My Basil was diagnosed with adrenal disease after a TN panel when she was 3. I brought the fluctuations in the size of her vulva to the vet's attention at least 6 months earlier but the vet said although not impossible she was a little young. So it wasn't until it remained consistently large at age 3 that we went for the panel.

I don't remember the season or relative timing, but before the panel she had a complete rat tail at one point that then grew in except for the very tip. It looked at if someone took her tail and just cut almost an inch of fur off the end leaving it blunt. She didn't have any other hair loss or thinning, and she wasn't noticeably itchy. But she did become increasingly hyper, protesting the cage and closed doors by chewing and digging, and taking out her frustrations on her cage mates.

Since the surgery her tail always has a pointy tip, so it may be a possibility and something to keep an eye on.
