Subject: [ferrethealth] New Book “What’s Wrong With My Ferret?”
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Dear Fellow Ferret Lovers!

I have recently discovered an excellent book written by a very well respected ferret doctor, Dr. John Rossi of Riverside Animal Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. I think it is an excellent book for every ferret owner and has reference in it that can't be found in any other book.

Here is the synopsis from the author:

[BEGIN REDUCED QUOTE (reduced to avoid copyright violation)]

What's Wrong With My Ferret? is the first reference you should consider when you have a problem with your ferret. You will find everything you need to know to get a handle of most common problems associated with captive ferrets.
This book will guide you through everything from behavioral problems and first aid to how to handle things such as old age...

Besides my review, here is what Judith White of SOS has to say about the book, "What's Wrong With My Ferret? is a quick and usable guide to many ferret illnesses and conditions in one small book. It would be very valuable for anyone who has not had extensive experience with ferrets. The book has helpful photo illustrations and clear descriptions. The style is professional and yet accessible to the non-vet. Even the long-time ferret owner could use it for a rapid reference tool to be sure they are on the right track, especially for problems they have never personally experienced with their ferrets. Someone who does a lot of their own medical care would want more detailed descriptions, but it will do a good job of educating everyone else ... and getting people to take their ferrets to the vet when they need to! I definitely recommend the book."

[Info on how to get book and help shelter removed to fit the FHL rules, so ask Don directly.]

Please feel free to contact me directly at the above e-mail address with ANY questions!

Thank you,

Don

[We can not allow sales information here per the rules, so this
post is a bit edited and the people who want to know more
can write to Don directly and he can send you the entire
original post directly. We also do not have the author's
direct permission to provide a long quote and doing so
would violate his copyright so that had to be removed per
international copyright law.

The book is about 50 pages long, with about 20 photos.
It summarizes and illustrates many common ferret health
problems, but for more details other resources are
needed. Still, it can be very useful, especially to bring people
in to the vet with their ferrets on time, to help those in
areas where there are few ferret vets show their vets
directions in which to investigate, or as a reminder for
those with experience since it provides quick organization.

There is a brief list of common ferret medications
(complete with notations to explain abbreviations) and
their dosing and timing, a ferret first aid kit list, lists of
ferret resources and references including vet texts, etc.

It gets down to the nitty gritty that most ferret people
will need at an affordable price.

Please, contact Don directly and you can also learn more

and then ask Don how to help a shelter while learning
by writing to him directly for more information before
you purchase, please.
