Subject: [ferrethealth] yellowish soft stool egg yolk looking and not eating well the past day at all
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hey Sherry,

My 8 yr old male male had poop that looked like this when he was in severe
liver failure. He needs a vet visit. For Talc, the vet literally couldn't
tell me the ALT because it was (even after a retest to check that
machinery was working) over 2000. The ferret was limp in our arms (seemingly fine
the day before) when we brought him in to the vet, who after testing,
basically told us that we could give him pred or some other palliative care, but
that we should use the weekend (it was Friday) to "say goodbye" to him. He
was very ill (in part, stressed because his only other ferret friend had
been suffering from lymphoma) We treated him with milk thistle (silymarin)
and high doses of MSM (methylsulonylmethane) -up to 6 grams/day of the MSM-
along with his soup which included heated egg yolk and colostrum (although
if I had it to do over now, I would go with goats milk yogurt in place of
the colostrum because we have had a recent turnaround in a ferret with
insulinoma that we thought was sliding quickly down hill because she so
adamantly refused to eat and had almost liquid diarrhea. She's back to eating
crunchy food in addition to her soup instead of only soup and no diarrhea.)
Long story short, we were able to get another four months of good quality life
(eating on his own most of the time and relatively active) with that
protocol. Of course, consult with your vet first. This could be a poop "blip,"
but could also be very serious.
