Hey Mike

Has your vet ever talked to you about placing a feeding tube in Sprout to help with getting him nourishment? I had great success with getting them healthy this way - no more struggles to feed them or get the proper medication in them. It is a fairly easy surgery - about 15 minutes. A small incision is made on the neck, then a tube inserted into the esophagus to the stomach. Tubing outside of the body is held in place with bandages. Feeding/medicating is simple - flush the tube first, then food/meds, then flush again. They don't fight the food or the meds. You have to be extremely careful to not clog the tube so all food has to be strained and the tube flushed before and after every use.

When I went through ECE back in 1995/6, I had 34 ferrets in the shelter and they all came down with it. Six of the ferrets were sick enough to warrant having the tube inserted and when the virus had finally run its course, all of the ferrets survived. Good luck to you and Sprout!
