For what it's worth, many years ago I had a ferret with an esophageal problem. So SHE had a feeding tube inserted directly through the stomach wall via a tiny incision in her side. It wasn't too big a deal per se, and was present for over a month. It didn't seem to cause discomfort.

For Tressie and whomever else wants to know: A pediatric Foley catheter was used as the "stomach tube". It was stitched in and then wrapped in Vet Wrap for support. I don't know too much more about the attachment procedure, but I don't think there was much more to it than that! The tube did come out once (in the middle of the night, of course), but an experienced vet reinserted it without issue. (A less experienced night vet was too insecure to even try). The ferret did pretty well eventually. I still have the catheter as a reminder of that sweet critter, though she has long since passed.

[I wonder if this may be an option for some with MegaE?
