"A recently published protocol for treating ferrets is a combination of Clarithromycin (Biaxin) at 50 mg/kg once daily, and amoxicillin at 35 mg/kg once daily, or 20 mg/kg twice daily. This therapy is only continued for two weeks..."
There are other published protocols (i.e., Johnson-Delaney, 2005) that are effective in treating Helicobacter but from personal experience the one Dr. Williams mentions is the one that appears to be better tolerated by the ferret in terms of palatability.
Now my vet does divide the Biaxin dose to twice a day, given with the Amoxi because it is an awfully large volume for a ferret to swallow in one go at the once daily dose.
