Whether he's better or not, its best he be seen by a vet, given his recent history.
IF it is JL then pred would make him feel better initially because it can put lymphoma into remission. However, the inevitable crash always happens and the disease rebounds with a vengence.
A blood glucose test is very easy for your vet to do to confirm or rule out insulinoma.
Experienced ferret owners may be able to intuit what a ferret may have, however, suspicions are not diagnoses, which only a vet can give.
Pred is a powerful medication and there is a tendency to become complacent about using it because ferrets tolerate it so well. However, it does suppress the immune system and has other side effects and therefore, should only be used with a veterinarian's guidance.
