If he hasn't had his blood glucose levels checked, then how did he get onto prednisone? Giving steroids without some kind of definitive diagnosis is very dangerous territory. You could very well be making matters worse. My gut feeling is that this is NOT insulinoma, given his age and his lack of response to the pred. He should have a full blood panel worked up for further info, and I'd get x-rays as well, since there's a chance this could be lymphoma. It could also be a nasty carcinoma, or pancreatitis. The point is, guessing isn't the right path, and could be wasting precious time. Get him to a good ferret vet right away.
