Subject: [ferrethealth] question ASAP
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have a 5 month old ferret that has had loose stools on and off. The
probiotics I give clear it up then on occasion he'll have it again.
I've read online that neomycin is ok to give ferrets (the same stuff
used for wet tail in guinea pigs etc) Has anyone ever used this?

Thank you
Darlene

[NEVER give any old medication, or any medication that
the treating vet has not prescribed for the individual ferret
because that can be way to dangerous.

Neomycin can cause kidney damage in ferrets:

People have at times used some topical meds
that contain very tiny amounts of it, but giving it
as an ingested antibiotic would be a mistake.

Ferrets are very different from rodents. Taxonomically,
humans are closer to rodents than members of Carnivora
are.
