Subject: [ferrethealth] ferret needs to slim down - ideas??
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi Everyone:

I have a six year old ferret who needs to lose weight. I have cut back on soups and increased exercise and Jillie seems to mainitain her present weight of too much. Starting today I am cutting back on soup again measuring it out in syringes and giving her her own dish to slurp from. My ferrets have always been on soup twice a day am/pm. They have access to kibble throughout the house and cages. At her annual exam last year Doc suggested she needed to begin a weight reduction plan which we did by cutting back and increasing her out time. We were successful until this spring when she appeared to be gaining again.

She is very active when out and I encourage her to move with play and other playmates. I would love to hear any suggestions. Her kibble choices consist of Purina One Kitten, Pro Plan Kitten, Baby TF and Turkey Venison Lamb TF. We have seven other ferrets who have come with these foods from shelters and/or we have adapted the new TF foods which all like. We just switched over to TF from EVO kitten and cat due to the changes going on and the ferrets picking out the EVO.

We see Doc tomorrow for her annual and will see what he suggests. Other than being overweight she is in great health. Thanks, Cathy
