I've studied the sites you mentioned (I not a vet either) beginning in=20
August of last year. So, thus far, we've had almost 10 months of a health=
y,
happy little senior citizen.
Local vet is the exotic vet, but there just aren't many ferrets in the=20
area, so this vet doesn't have tons of experience from which to draw (perha=
ps=20
1-2 ferret surgeries per year). This is why we went to Chicago for consult=
=20
last year. At that time, we decided that surgery would not be an option =
due to her age. Chicago vet could not give firm Dx without exploratory =
surgery. He noted gas bubbles on her x-rays (now recurring) and perhaps a =
mass
located near the valve through which stomach contents empty (forget the =
technical name).
Her front end continues to act as if she has an ear infection (lack of=20
balance - ataxia?) while her hind end seems to have had a stroke. She does=
=20
have feeling in her extremities (responds to pain).
I am interested in knowing how long would be reasonable to wait to see if =
she is going to respond well to the medicinal protocol. Vets? Experienced
owners who have done it?
Blood glucose and x-ray repeated at emergency vet last eve - please see my =
other post today.

Is the vet you deal with familiar with ferret illnesses

What you describe sounds like it,
and if neurological issue is the only thing your Vet
has to say upon exam alone, I'd get a second opinion.
