Subject: [ferrethealth] Sprout Update
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com, F M L <ferret-L@listserv.ferretmailinglist.org>
Sprout continues to do poorly.=A0 He went through another episode of not wa=
nting to eat.=A0
=A0
1)=A0 It still could be ECE (which was diagnosed per biopsies) and we need =
to keep working with him.=A0 He keeps getting thinner and thinner and weake=
r.=A0 We are increasing the number of times we feed him even though it is a=
battle to get him to eat and many times we have to resort to scuffing to g=
et him to eat.
=A0
2)=A0 It could be a food allergy to chicken that was started when he got th=
e ECE.=A0 We are feeding him either turkey baby food or pureed chicken.=A0 =
If it is a food allergy his=A0cycle of good days to bad days could be on go=
od days he eats chicken based food, then get=A0sicker from it and has bad d=
ays where he wont eat.=A0 We are trying to get the turkey/lamb/venison ferr=
et food but have not been able to find it in stock in any store near us.=A0=
It is ordered and being shipped.=A0=A0 Even though he fights eating I did =
see him eat one piece of kibble (chicken based as we don't have the other y=
et) and I've seen him drink water.
=A0
3)=A0 It could be Lymphoma and there were not enough lymphoma cells on the =
biopsies for the lab to report it.=A0 He doesn't have any palpable lymph no=
des except for one in the abdomen which has gone away.
=A0
4)=A0 Could be a partial blockage and we should do a barium series.=A0 I'm =
going to check on that with our vet.
=A0
I have not weighed him lately he is visibly skinny and I can't bare to see =
his true weight.=A0 I know he must be less than 1 lbs 10 ounce when he shou=
ld be 2 lbs 5 ounces.
=A0
I'm at work today and my wife is suppose to make sure he eats every two to =
three hours.=A0 She is going to try the pureed turkey and mix in ensure and=
/or a/d.
=A0
If anyone has any suggestions they will be welcome.
=A0
Thanks
=A0

[Determining which coronavirus is present, i.e. if there is ECE, is
extremely hard to do, and to be accurate it needs to be done by
the Ferret Health Group at Michigan State:
http://www.ferrethealth.msu.edu/
Complications can happen with ECE. The damage to the small
intestine can cause IBD. Sometimes colitis happens. Sometimes
there is kidney damage from repeated or prolonged dehydration.
The list goes on.
